How is Polish Pottery Painted?
Polish Pottery is hand-decorated using a unique technique. Every item is repeatedly hand-stamped by an artist using small, specially-designed sponges. Great attention to detail and pattern are required, resulting in a highly-textured design composed of repeating elements such as circles, dots, lines, leaves, etc. Traditional patterns are composed of a main deep color of blue (usually on a cream-colored background) with the addition of red, green, orange, and yellow.
These are colors represent the vibrant beauty of nature: sky, flowers, grass, trees, and autumn leaves. Many patterns, mainly UNIKAT, depict other elements and scenes found in nature and are often hand-painted using a brush. While each artist has particular patterns they have composed and produce the best, each piece is a bit different from the next, resulting in the truest form of handicraft art.
Is Polish Pottery durable?
Polish Pottery is stoneware is made of a very strong, natural material and is designed to be used for years on a daily basis without fading or cracking. It is so durable that, in some cases, it may even survive a fall to the floor.
The glaze which covers every item also makes it resistant to chipping and scratching, making it the perfect serving piece to invest in – we even have cutting boards and cheese boards available for your next party.

Artisan Imports was founded in 2003 as a small family business importing Polish Pottery. It has greatly expanded since then. After moving to our large 12,000 ft warehouse in Texas, it has now become the largest distributor of Polish Stoneware in the world, with a selection of patterns and shapes greater than what one can find in Boleslawiec, Poland.
